Tennis Roundup: Huron, Skyline win dual-matches in easy fashion
The Huron tennis team improved to 8-0 on the season with an 8-0 win over Saline on Sept. 24. The River Rats are enjoying an amazing season in 2020.
Huron’s No. 1 singles player Angie Zhou defeated Nathan Mah 6-0, 6-0; Aarnav Unadkat won at two singles 4-6, 6-2, 10-8; Michael Shi won at three singles 6-0, 6-0; and Vedanth Kallakuri won 6-3, 7-5 at four singles.
The River Rats also dominated in doubles – they didn’t lose a set.
At one doubles, the team of Nick Grosh and TJ Bai won 6-0, 6-2; at two doubles, Vincent Tremonti and Aidan Storey won 6-0, 6-0; at three doubles, Rishab Jayaraman and Lee Finger-Myers won 6-0, 6-0; at four doubles, Agosto D’Andrea and Ahmed Hejazi won 6-0, 6-1.
The River Rats were coming off an impressive 7-1 win over Catholic Central on Sept. 23 and a 5-3 win over rival Pioneer on Sept. 17.
Earlier in the year, the River Rats won the competitive Novi Quad on Sept. 12. The No. 1 doubles team of Grosh and Bai won all three matches as did Pauken at four singles. Number three 3 doubles got second in their flight. Huron’s top three singles players took second in their flights. “This was a great tournament and competition,” said Huron Coach Zsofi Towne.
Skyline
The Eagles had few problems on Tuesday with a 7-1 win over Tecumseh in an SEC dual-meet.
The Eagles swept the singles events with Anthony Van Oyen winning 6-0, 6-0 at one singles; William Kersch winning 6-1, 6-2 at two singles; Arjun Bharadwaj winning 6-0, 6-0 at three singles; and Daniel Rogers winning 6-0 , 6-0 at four singles.
Skyline won the first three doubles events. Tejivir Thomas and Aidan Osofisan won 6-1, 6-2 at one doubles; Luke Williams and Nicash Bhagat won 6-0, 6-0 at two doubles; and Lance Caswell and Alex Lefort won 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 at three doubles.
At four doubles, Skyline’s Eli Bishar and Sam Klein lost a close match, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0.
