Golf: All three local teams compete against elite field at Barton Hills

It was a difficult course with difficult weather conditions and a difficult field to compete against for the three Ann Arbor schools on Tuesday afternoon. Let’s just say it wasn’t easy.

Playing under chilly conditions and on the very challenging Barton Hills course, the local teams teed things up against some of the elite teams in the state in the Pioneer Invitational as they prepare for Thursday’s SEC league meet. Speaking of Thursday’s league meet, Pioneer comes in undefeated but Skyline is right behind them with only one loss on the year in conference play.

It was quite a battle at the top of the scorecard at Barton Hills. Plymouth fired a team score of 327 to finish first. Northville was just four shots back with a 331 followed by Grand Blanc with a 335.

Pioneer fired a 347 to finish fourth, one shot better than Flint Powers Catholic – yes, every shot counts.

Brighton was sixth (351), Grosse Pointe South was seventh (365), Skyline was eighth (394), Saline ninth (445), Pinckney 10^th (446), Dexter 11^th (450) and Huron 12^th (463).

Pioneer senior Amaya Melendez fired a team-best 81. Junior Hayley Marchand shot an 85, sophomore Mackenzie Rooney carded a 90, sophomore Alysa Zhu shot a 91, senior Jillian Giordano had a 92, junior Kara Muckstadt shot a 100, junior Camille Sowton carded a 101 and freshman Alex Ellender had a 103.

Adie Maki had an impressive round for the Eagles. The Skyline junior fired a team-best 80. Skyline’s scorecard also included freshman Reva Patchava (101), junior Lucy Stoy (103), junior Riya Patchava (110), senior Grace Hescheles (111), senior Alison Marshall (117) and senior Mackenzie Dempsey (125).

Huron’s scorecard featured junior Victoria Underwood (112), freshman Aida Baidel (113), sophomore Allison Mi (116) and sophomore Varvara Bashkirova (122).
