Boys Cross Country Roundup: Eagles, River Rats run third at invitationals

Skyline’s Nicolas Fry finished first at the 38th annual Gabriel Richard Invitational on Saturday at Hudson Mills Metropark to help lead the Eagles to a third-place finish. Brighton ran first (61) and Plymouth was second (75). Pioneer ran fourth with 113 points in the 13-team race.

Fry, a senior, ran a winning time of 15:34.64, just ahead of Grosse Pointe South’s Logan Detweiler (15:34.81).

Junior Luke Suliman was sixth (15:51.84), senior Christopher Van Lent was 12th (16:10.65) and junior Mason Jett was 14th (16:15.46) as the Eagles landed four runners in the top 15.

Senior Aidan Hale was 16th (17:20.67), senior Soren Nielsen was 88th (17:55.59), freshman Bruno Cifaldi was 91st (17:56.72), freshman Zeke Lafferty was 97th (18:12.14), senior Eric VonBargen (103rd, 18:24.55), junior Paul Minock was 123rd (19:05.20) and sophomore Jack Robichaud was 126th (19:09.14).

Pioneer had six runner sin the top 30, led by junior Vincent Peterson Sand (17th, 16:21.70), senior Thomas Kerber (20th, 16:26.40) and senior Roman Cortina (21st, 16:27.88). Junior Aaron Sterken was 27th (16:48.16), junior Eric Overdier was 28th (16:49.51) and senior Andrew Grier was 29th (16:49.98). Junior Liam Bredeweg was 36th (16:54.97), senior Nathan Milliman was 51st (17:08.45), senior Chase Klapthor was 57th (17:15.34), and senior Matt Dombrowski was 60th (17:20.34). The rest of the Pioneers were freshman: Beckett Crooks (63rd, 17:23.24), Thomas DeJesus (64th, 17:24.43), Quinn Davis (65th, 17:24.53) and Theo Sacks-Thomas (67th, 17:28.65).

Huron boys

The River Rats placed third at the 17th annual YpsiRunCo River Rat Rat Open at Willow Metropark. Huron finished with 91 points. Saline – which had the top three finishers – ran first (19 points) and Canton was second (63).

Junior Lucas Weintraub ran ninth in 16:58.80 to lead the River Rats. Sophomores Jonah Kraft (16th, 17:14.50) and Walker Brose (19th, 17:16.60) finished in the top 20.

Senior Adam Bigelow was 30th (17:37.20), junior Henry Beard was 31st (17:37.50), junior Liam Ridenour was 36th (17:50.80), senior Aidan Behmer (46th, 18:06.70), freshman Thomas (TJ) Conley was 47th (18:07.70), freshman Jamal (Max) Samaha was 52nd (18:20.40), senior Devin Saxon was 56th (18:25.70), junior Alexander D’Haene was 71st (18:56.90), junior Joaquin Moore was 76th (19:06.10) and senior Kirilo Pereklita was 79th (19:08.20).
