WLAA Profile: Huron cheer team has plenty to cheer about in 2020

The 2020 season is underway for fall sports and that is certainly something to cheer about. And that’s exactly what’s happening at Huron.

“We are really excited to be able to support and cheer for the football team,” says Tierra N. Jackson, Huron’s varsity cheer coach. “The girls have been working extremely hard. I’m very proud of them.”

WeLoveAnnArbor caught up with four of Huron’s senior cheer team members. Let’s meet them:

Samantha Winston-Brown

Years on the cheer team: 4

What do you like about being on the Huron cheer team? I like learning cheers, performing and just showing how hard we work to improve ourselves every game.

What have been some of the challenges this year with everything going on? There’s a lot of hands-on activities in cheer where we help people with their form and the tightness of their motions. I think we’re being less strict this year on that just because we can’t physically correct anyone.

What has school been like this year? School has been a little stressful so far. Just getting used to online school and logging into zoom and other video calling platforms. And I feel like I already have a lot of homework.

How would you describe this year’s Huron cheer team? I think we’re very hard working. We were preparing for basketball season with three months to go before football was brought back, so we’ve had to speed up our learning pace so that we were ready for the first game.
