WCC launches fully redesigned website
Washtenaw Community College launched a brand new, fully-redesigned website yesterday that features a more student-friendly structure, a responsive design for mobile users and enhanced use of images and video to bring to life the vibrant and diverse college community.
Extensive student, employee and partner feedback was incorporated into the design of the new site, which now requires significantly fewer clicks for student navigation. The URL address for the website remains wccnet.edu.
“This work reflects Washtenaw Community College’s focus on student success and completion,” said WCC President Dr. Rose B. Bellanca. “Our website is often the first place potential students learn about us and the place current students learn about all of our programs that can guide them toward a successful future.”
The new student-centric website offers these benefits and features:
- More student-friendly content organization and layout. Academic programs are easier to locate within pathways familiar to students. The unified look and feel of the website ensures a consistent user-experience across all areas of the site.
- Responsive design for a true mobile experience. The new website is designed for students on the go using mobile devices. Currently, more than 50 percent of our users are accessing the existing site on mobile devices. Online tools, menus, text and images are user-friendly on cell phones as well as all other devices.
- A site accessible to all users. The new WCC website provides the same experience to users of all abilities and is compliant with worldwide accessibility standards.
The website offers a clean, interactive user experience and features a simplified navigation that is broken down by into categories developed with student use in mind: Start, Learn, Afford, Succeed and Engage.
The homepage also offers one-click access to information needed by the college’s business and industry partners, along with direction to content that define the college’s community programming and the contributions it makes to the local economy.
WCC Director of Web Services John Powell expects several enhancements to be popular with current students, most notably the streamlined enrollment process and a gateway that allows them to create individual to-do lists and populate a calendar with their personal class schedule with on-campus events.
“WCC now has a website with the look and functionality that best reflects who we are as a college and the services we provide to our community,” said Powell, who joined the college in 2018 to lead the project to replace a nearly decade-old website.
