WCC Foundation’s annual golf fundraiser goes virtual
The Washtenaw Community College Foundation has announced that its annual Jerry Jernigan Memorial Golf Outing is going virtual this year.
The popular 27th annual event, which raises money to help WCC students overcome barriers to their education, is responding to the current COVID-19 public health crisis by adopting the new, safer format.
“The golf will be real but the outing will be virtual,” said WCC Foundation Associate Vice President Phillip Snyder. “As in the past, this year’s event will provide you with driving range access, a challenging round of golf on the Golden Fox course at Fox Hills Golf & Banquet Center in Plymouth, and lunch and drinks in the clubhouse. Golfers who turn in their scores by November 4 can participate in the scramble for prizes and bragging rights.”
Under the new format, golfers can play in the outing any time between September 8 and October 31. They can play as singles, in twosomes, threesomes or as foursomes. However, only registered foursomes can be in the scramble. Visit the event page to learn how to participate and register.
Snyder said the WCC Foundation sees a more urgent need for student financial assistance this year.
“Sponsoring or playing in this important fundraiser will support the WCC Foundation Student Emergency Fund, which is privately funded,” he said. “Proceeds will help students overcome food shortages or get the technology needed to participate in online classes. Over 80% of WCC students receiving this type of support in the past have stayed in school or graduated.”
Information on sponsorship opportunities are available online or by contacting Tina Kashat Casoli, Director of Major Gifts and Development, at tcasoli@wccnet.edu.
The event is named in memory of two-term Ann Arbor Mayor Jerry Jernigan, who also served on the WCC Board of Trustees. Jernigan is remembered for the positive impact he left on the community as well as the vital role he served at WCC.
