Water Polo: Skyline falls to Huron, Pioneer in tourney
The Skyline water polo team traveled to Pioneer this past weekend for a tournament against some strong competition. The Eagles landed with a 1-3 record on the day.
On Friday night, Birmingham Seaholm game out wanting to prove they could finally beat the Eagles and in a showdown, came away with a win by just one point (8-7).
Next, against Huron, the Eagles took another tough loss to the River Rats (2-9). Senior Captains, Atticus Dewey and Noah Boucher worked to ignite their players with several goals each in both games, but the team just couldn’t beat the highly ranked Ann Arbor team.
The Eagles scored a 10-6 win over Grand Blanc.
Sophomore Ben Deininger led the charge with 4 goals, 1 assist and 1 steal. Senior Captain Atticus Dewey and Senior Captain Noah Boucher both had 2 goals and 2 assists each, while Sophomore Evan McKelvey and Freshman Ian Root contributed with 1 goal each. Ryan Hsia really shined on defense and helped with a key steal.
The final match was a classic contest with rival Pioneer. The Eagles looked very strong in a closely matched game, but in the end they took the loss by just one point (13-12).
Senior captain Noah Boucher led the team with 5 goals and 1 assist, while sophomore Ben Deininger had 3 goals and 2 assists. Senior captain Nicky Boucher again played in the field and helped the team with 2 goals, while junior John Evangelista and sophomore Evan McKelvey both had 1 goal and 1 assist.
The Eagles (14-15-1) will host a tournament at Skyline Friday and Saturday.
