Upcoming Elections include Aug. 6 WISD special election

Washtenaw County Intermediate School District (WISD) has called a special election for Aug. 6

The last day to register to vote by mail, or with any designated voter registration agency (e.g. County Clerk, Secretary of State Branch Office, etc.), for the August 6 Special Election is July 22, 2019. After this date, voters can still register in-person at the City Clerk’s Office with proof of residency until 8:00 P.M. on Election Day.

The Ann Arbor City Clerk’s Office will be open for in-person voter registration and absentee ballot requests on Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Voters registering to vote within 14 days of an election will be required to provide proof of residency.

WASHTENAW INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT – 1 PROPOSAL

BONDING PROPOSAL

Shall Washtenaw Intermediate School District, Michigan, borrow the sum of not to exceed Fifty-Three Million Two Hundred Ninety-Five Thousand Dollars ($53,295,000) and issue its general obligation unlimited tax bonds therefor for the purpose of:

erecting, furnishing and equipping a new High Point School as an addition to the pool and gymnasium portions of the existing building; remodeling, equipping and re-equipping and furnishing and refurnishing the pool and gymnasium portions of the existing building; purchasing and installing information technology systems equipment and software; and preparing, developing, improving and equipping playgrounds and the site?

The following is for informational purposes only:

The estimated millage that will be levied for the proposed bonds in 2020 is .37 mill ($0.37 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation). The maximum number of years the bonds may be outstanding, exclusive of any refunding, is ten (10) years. The estimated simple average annual millage anticipated to be required to retire this bond debt is .37 mill ($0.37 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation).

(Pursuant to State law, expenditure of bond proceeds must be audited, and the proceeds cannot be used for repair or maintenance costs, teacher, administrator or employee salaries, or other operating expenses.)

November 2018 – Passage of “Promote the Vote” Brings Changes to Election Law

The passage of Proposal 3 in November of 2018, enshrined in the Michigan Constitution various changes related to the voting process. Chief amongst them are:

Protecting the right to vote a secret ballot.
Providing voters the option to vote a straight party ballot.
Allowing citizens to register to vote by mail until 15 days before an election.
Citizens can also register to vote in person with the City Clerk’s Office until 8:00 P.M. on Election night.
Allows for all registered voters to vote an absentee ballot without providing a reason.

With this change to the Michigan Constitution, the City of Ann Arbor has simplified the process for enrolling on the City’s Automatic Absent Voter Application List. Permanent Polling Place Change, Ward 1, Precinct 4 (1-4) Relocated to 2nd Baptist Church, 850 Red Oak Drive

At the request of the Ann Arbor Community Center, 625 N. Main Street will no longer be a City polling site. Voters assigned to this Precinct (Ward 1, Precinct 4) will be permanently relocated to a new polling place at 2nd Baptist Church, 850 Red Oak Drive, beginning with the November 6, 2018 General Election. All affected voters in Precinct 1-4 will receive a new voter ID Card alerting them of the new polling place assignment. Voters can look for the cards in late September. Temporary Polling Place Change, Ward 1, Precincts 1 and 12 (1-1 and 1-12) Relocated to Rackham Graduate School

Due to scheduled construction beginning in April 2018 at the Michigan Union, 530 S. State Street, voters assigned to Precincts 1-1 and 1-12 will be assigned to a temporary polling place at the Rackham Graduate School, 915 E. Washington Street, for the remainder of 2018 and 2019. All affected voters in Precincts 1-1 and 1-12 received new voter ID cards alerting them of the temporary polling place change. New cards will be sent again to voters upon the return to the Michigan Union. Please email or call the City Clerk for more information.

Temporary Polling Place Change, Ward 4, Precinct 1 (4 -1) Relocated to UM Coliseum

Due to scheduled construction beginning in April 2018 at the Michigan Union, 530 S. State Street, voters assigned to Precinct 4-1 will be assigned to a temporary polling place at the UM Coliseum for all scheduled elections in 2018. All affected voters in Precinct 4-1 received a new voter ID Card alerting them of the temporary polling place change. New cards will be sent again to voters upon the return to the Michigan Union. Special Elections

Special elections may be held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in May as needed, or in August or November of odd-years when regular elections are not normally held.
