United Way of Washtenaw County is Proud to Announce AmeriCorps Members
ANN ARBOR — To date, more than one million Americans have strengthened their communities through a term of service with AmeriCorps, a branch of the Corporation for National & Community Service.
As part of this nationwide effort, The Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) has placed AmeriCorps State members at fifteen different sites throughout Michigan. United Way of Washtenaw County (UWWC) is excited to announce that we have been selected to host two members for the upcoming service year.
“AmeriCorps members play a central role in supporting our free tax preparation services and financial education workshops,” notes Amanda Reel, Senior Community Impact Manager for UWWC. “We are so pleased to host Tien Holmes and Grant Holbrook. UWWC and our community benefit from AmeriCorps’members’ commitment of time and talent during their year of service.”
This is UWWC’s fifth year hosting AmeriCorps members. AmeriCorps State members work to increase financial stability in Washtenaw County providing free financial education classes, free tax preparation services and organizing Show Me The Money Day events in their communities, which serve to connect people to local financial and community resources.
“AmeriCorps members add capacity to CEDAM member organizations, helping them to expand services and reach more clients,” said Rachel Diskin, director of National Service programs at CEDAM. “I look forward to seeing both Tien and Grant at their host site, United Way of Washtenaw County.”
