Track & Field: Eagles travel to Saline twice for dual-meet and May Day Showcase
The Skyline varsity track team traveled to Saline twice this past week. On Tuesday, the Eagles competed in a dual meet with Saline. The Hornets then hosted seven teams on Saturday for the May Day Showcase.
While both the boys and girls teams suffered tough losses to the Saline teams at the dual meet, there were many outstanding individual performances and personal records set.
The Skyline men had first place finishes by senior Ian Steele in the 800 (1:58.87), sophomore Nico Fry in the 1600 (4:43.56) and freshman Luke Suliman in the 3200 (10:54.92). Senior Gage Robinson finished second in the shot put (41’03”) and third in the discus (103’03”). Steele’s 800m time is the 12th fastest in the state this spring. He then ran a 52.0 anchor leg in the 4×400.
On the women’s side, the top scorer was senior Felicity Sorensen, with a first place finish in the high jump (4’10”) and a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles (18.67). Other highlights were Lydia Cocciolone’s second place finish in the 3200 (12:36.71) and Marei Launderberg’s second place finish in the discus (70’05`’).
