The Guild of Artists & Artisans with Gutman Gallery Announce fluid. man. woman. and the space between.
ANN ARBOR – In celebration of June being Pride Month, The Guild of Artists & Artisans (The Guild) announces fluid. man. woman. and the space between., an all media exhibition in Gutman Gallery exploring what is inherently masculine or feminine and whether or not it’s even relevant. The exhibition will be on display May 13 through June 18.
The community is invited to help us kick off fluid. man. woman. and the space between. with an open house style reception on Friday, May 13 from 4-6pm. Stop by the gallery to experience the show firsthand, meet some of the artists, and listen to live music from Koro Kouyate. Be sure to follow along on our Facebook Event Page for reception details, exhibition updates, and artwork highlights.
fluid. man. woman. and the space between. was juried by Guild staff and guest juror, Armando Pedroso, accomplished Michigan-based artist. The exhibition features 26 works from 16 talented artists, representing a variety of styles, techniques, and media. Among these works, the show includes a mixed media sculpture by Pamela Day, two mixed media monoprints by John Gutoskey, and two photographs by Hailey Hayward.
Talking about her photographs in the exhibition, Hailey Hayward says, “In simple terms, the feminine and masculine only hold “serious” and confining meaning socially. In my experience being a woman, I am assumed to be sweet, delicate, comforting, and all things assigned and associated with the feminine. In reality, we as humans obtain both masculine and feminine and should embrace these qualities instead of limiting ourselves to only one type of existence.”
Throughout the duration of the exhibition, Artist Pop-Ups will continue on Saturdays in Gutman Gallery. Art-lovers are invited to visit the gallery on Saturdays to meet the artists behind the work and shop a wider variety of their art. Different gallery artists will be setting up shop each Saturday from 11am-5pm. Follow along on Facebook and Instagram, where we will announce the line-up each week!
The Guild continues to take measures to create a safe and comfortable environment for its community of artists and art-lovers. At this time, The Guild recommends masks in the gallery, but does not require them (masks are available to those who wish to have one). Hand sanitizer stations, courtesy of Mammoth Distilling, are set up throughout the gallery, surfaces are wiped down regularly, and touchless payments are an option for all transactions.
Gutman Gallery is thankful to its donors and community partners whose support makes this and other programs possible. A special thank you to our community partners: Vic Gutman & Associates, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority, Mammoth Distilling, and Dollar Bill Printing.
