The Ark: Tommy Malone and Willie Porter highlight July 15-16 weekend

TOMMY MALONE of The Subdudes
Friday, July 15, 2022, 8:00pm
Tickets: $25

A solo tour from the Subdudes’ lead singer Before there were terms like “roots rock,” there were the Subdudes and their acoustic accordion-flavored (and tambourine-spiked) musical brew that came straight out of the warmth and soul of their native New Orleans. The Subdudes aren’t touring right now, so their lead singer, Tommy Malone, is doing some shows. Expect a healthy dose of Subdudes as well as some rarities and great covers. If you need a Subdudes fix, this is it! Tommy is also the Subdudes’ lead guitarist, and he punctuates soulful, heartfelt vocals with playing that is by turns joyful, incendiary, and melancholic. He’s been writing and playing music for more than three decades—20 years off and on with the Subdudes, and another decade and half before that with many of the same musicians. “He was always the way he is now,” says fellow Subdude Steve Amedée, who would know: they’ve been playing together since Tommy was a high school sophomore. This isn’t New Orleans music quite the way you usually think of it, but it comes straight out of the heart and soul of the Crescent City .https://www.tommymalone.net/
