Tennis: Pioneers improve to 10-1 (see WLAA photo gallery – 60 photos)
After a tough 5-3 loss to rival Huron on Sept. 17, the Pioneer tennis team has volleyed up a string of impressive wins. The Pioneers have won five straight since their only loss of the season including impressive victories over Skyline (7-1), Bloomfield Hills (5-3) and Monroe (6-0).
Most recently, the Pioneers served up an 8-1 win over Rochester on Saturday to improve to 10-1 on the season.
Rochester’s Clayton Anderson defeated Pioneer’s Stanley Rhodes 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 in one singles. Pioneer won the rest of the matches.

At two singles, Isaac Herrenkohl won 6-2, 6-2; Noah Vogel won 6-1, 6-1 at three singles and Corin Tang won 6-0, 6-0 at four singles.
Pioneer dominated the doubles events against Rochester.
At one doubles, the team of Sam Berkooz and Jack Aachibald won 6-1, 6-1; at two doubles, Evan and Roopas and Kyler Heise won 6-3, 6-0; at three doubles, David Lee and Will Castanier won 6-1, 6-1; and at four doubles, Joseph Alphonso and Alex Roopas won 6-0, 6-0.
On Wednesday, Pioneer had a challenging and intense match with visiting Bloomfield Hills that featured some outstanding play on both sides of the net and on all courts.
Pioneer won three of the singles events with Herrenkohl winning 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 at two singles, Vogel winning 7-5, 7-5 at three singles and Tang winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at four singles.
The second doubles team of Evan Roopas and Abbaraju won 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. At four doubles, Alphonso and Alex Roopas won 6-3, 6-4.
