Tennis: Pioneers go 1-1-1 at annual Pioneer Invitational

The Pioneer tennis team won one, lost one and tied one at the annual Pioneer Tennis Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers defeated Saline 8-0, lost to Okemos 5-3 and tied Troy 4-4.

Stanley Rhodes won 6-4, 6-2 at one singles; Isaac Herrenkohl won 6-1, 6-4 at two singles; and Noah Vogel won 6-1, 6-3 at three singles for the Pioneers in the draw with Troy.

At four doubles, Joseph Alphonso and Alex Roopas won 6-1, 6-1 over Troy.

In the match against Okemos, the Pioneers dropped all four singles matches but dominated the doubles matches.

At two doubles, Evan Roopas and Aditya Abbaraju won 6-2, 6-3. At three doubles, Shankrith Chandru and Will Castanier won 6-2, 6-0. And at four doubles, Alphonso and Roopas won 7-5, 6-0.

Against Saline, the Pioneers won all eight flights.

Rhodes won 6-1, 6-0 at one singles; Herrenkohl won 6-0, 6-0 at two singles; Vogel won 6-0, 6-2 at three singles; and Corin Tang won 6-0, 6-4 at four singles for the Pioneers.

At one doubles, Sam Berkooz and Jack Aachibald won 6-1, 6-2; at two doubles, Roopas and Abbaraju won 6-0, 6-4; at three doubles, Chandru and Castanier won 6-1, 6-0; and at four doubles, Alphonso and Roopas won 6-0, 6-2.
