Swimming: Skyline races past Huron in city dual-meet

Skyline splashed past city rival Huron in an SEC dual-meet on Tuesday 114-66 in a matchup that featured some incredible performances on both sides of the pool – these two teams seem to bring out the best in each other.

The Skyline foursome of Ben Deininger, Lewis McCammon, Evan McKelvey and Andy Xi won the opening medley relay in 1 minute, 42.54 seconds.

Skyline’s Matthew Lee won the 200 free in 1:44.19. Huron’s Drew Lindstrom was second (1:47.49) and Skyline’s Owen McKelvey was third (1:57.55).

Skyline went one-two in the IM with Jack Staunton first (2:05.31) and Deininger a close second (2:05.82). Huron’s John Gao was third (2:06.03).

Huron junior Peter Fazekas won the 50 free in 22.91 seconds. Skyline’s Owen Schadler was second (23.47) and Huron’s Alex Moskus was third (23.74).

Skyline freshman Stuart Knight won diving with 204.25 points. Teammate Soren Nielsen was second (134.10 points).

Evan McKelvey won the butterfly for the Eagles with a time of 52.66. Lindstrom was second (55.76) and Gao third (58.11) for Huron.

Sophomore Lucas Caswell won the 100 free in 50.71. Huron’s Fazekas was second (51.08) and Skyline’s Xi was third (51.71).

Skyline junior Owen Torres went the distance to win the 500 free in 5:10.55. Teammate Owen McKelvey was second (5:20.14) and Huron sophomore Franek Orlowski was third (5:23.42).

Skyline’s foursome of Deininger, Lee, Staunton and Xi won the 200 free relay in 1:30.13. Huron’s team of Lindstrom, Daniel Huang, Moskus and Fazekas was second in 1:33.02.

Evan McKelvey won the backstroke in 54.97. Huron’s Joe O’Neal was second (56.40) and Skyline’s Coleson Probst was third (57.19).

In the breaststroke, Skyline went one-two with Staunton (1:02.52) and Caswell (1:04.12). Huron’s Kenneth Jiang was third (1:06.45).

Huron’s team of Lindstrom, Fazekas, Gao and Moskus won the 400 free relay in 3:29.86. Skyline’s team of Deininger, Sawyer Thompson, Bed Edlund and Owen McKelvey took second in 3:31.43.
