Swimming: Skyline adds three wins with one lap around the pool
The Skyline swimming and diving team had a successful Thursday evening as the Eagles flew away with three wins during an SEC quad-meet at Skyline High School.
Skyline defeated Bedford 127-56, Jackson 124-62 and Adrian 170-16.
It all started where it always starts – the medley relay. And the Eagles splashed their way to a first-place finish. The team of Lily Cleason, Emma Pettigrew, Claire Kozma and Allison Haak touched first in 1:53.42.
Skyline went one-two in the 200 free with Kozma taking first in 2:01.59 and Gina Sadler second in 2:04.12.
Pettigrew, a junior, won the 200 IM in 2:19.22. Jorie Cho was fourth (2:29.84) and Marin Heusel fifth (2:29.84) for the Eagles.
Cleason touched second (25.62), Madison Deininger third (26.39) and Angela Noble fourth (27.14) in the 50 free.
Skyline’s Peyton Horning was sixth (140.95 points) and Jill Veitkevicious was seventh (137.95) in diving.
Cho swam third in the 100 butterfly (1:09.07). Heusel was fifth (1:10.86) and Sadler was sixth (1:12.56).
The Eagles went one-two-three in the 100 free: Cleason, a freshman, was first (55.40), Deininger second (56.91) and Aly Guevara third (58.82).
Pettigrew was second in the 500 free (5:29.90) and Ella Enrique-Shakespeare was third (5:34.45). Lauren Sloan was sixth (5:58.81) and Gretel Ham eighth (6:09.34).
The Eagles went one-three in the 200 free. The team of Haak, Deininger, Cleason and Kozma touched first in 1:41.56. The team of Sadler, Cho, Alia Tracy and Enrique-Shakespeare was third in 1:51.36.
Haak won the backstroke in 1:03.41 with Guevara second (1:06.85) and Noble fourth (1:08.47).
In the breaststroke, Kozma was third in the 1:17.01.
Skyline went one-two in the 400 free relay. The team of Sadler, Guevara, Enrique-Shakespeare and Deininger won in 3:58.44 with Pettigrew, Lucy Palacios, Lauren Sloan and Cho in the second in 4:00.80.
