Swimming: Seniors help lead Skyline over Huron in close SEC dual meet

The Skyline boys’ swimming and diving team celebrated its seniors, Atticus Dewey and Derek Mrachko, in fine fashion last week with a 100-83 win over Huron in an SEC dual-meet.

The Eagles celebrated after with a dinner and cake for the team.

Both seniors were central to the team victory, swimming on two winning relays each, as well as shining in their individual events.

Dewey and Mrachko teamed up, along with Matthew Lee and Evan McKelvey, to get things going in the right direction early by winning the 200 Medley Relay. Mrachko followed that up with a victory in the 200 Free Relay, along with McKelvey, Lee, and Ben Kurniawan.

And Dewey captured the final relay victory of the meet to sweep the relays, with help from Kurniawan, Daniel Koselka, and Ben Deininger.

Individually, the seniors scored in all of their individual races as well – Dewey won the 100 back and placed 4th in the 200 free, while Mrachko placed second in both the 50 free and 100 breast.

The Eagles swept the diving portion of the competition, with Charlie Andrew-Vaughan, Deininger, and Soren Nielsen going 1-2-3.

Additional scoring finishes in the meet were recorded by Deininger (100 Back-3rd), John Evangelista (50 Free-5th, 100 Fly-5th), Grant Gorman (500 Free-5th), Koselka (500 Free-4th, 200 Free-5th), Kurniawan (200 Free-1st, 500 Free-1st), Lee (50 Free-1st, 100 Fly-1st), McKelvey (100 Free-2nd, 200 IM-3rd), Daniel Osterholzer (100 Breast-4th), Conor Pyle (200 IM-5th, 100 Breast-5th), and Jack Staunton (200 IM-4th, 100 Free-5th).
