Swimming: River Rats cruise by Monroe in SEC Red dual-meet

The Huron swim team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 134-29 victory on Thursday over visiting Monroe.

The River Rats made a statement from the opening splash, taking the first three spots in the medley relay. The team of Andrew Ma, Daniel Huang, Victor Foss and Ian Powell touched first in 1 minute, 56.48 seconds. The group of Bryce Yung, Jeffery Wang, Kenneth Jiang and Kyle Smith were second in 2:03.44. And the foursome of Matthew Dowling, Kal Bunnell, Omar Abdulhak and Michael Shahine took third in 2:14.98.

The River Rats dominated the 200 freestyle with Drew Lindstrom first (1:54.42), Joe O’Neal second (2:07.76), Elijah Peters third (2:14.09) and Harry Youngman fourth (2:15.64).

Huron took the top three spots in the 200 IM with Jiang first (2:17.93), Foss second (2:23.96) and Powell third (2:40.88).

AJ Stewart won the 50 free in 23.47 seconds and Alan Moskus was second in 24.50.

Stewart went back-to-back, winning the 100 butterfly in 55.26. Huang was second in 1:04.87, Wang took third in 1:10.92 and Smith was fourth in 1:12.52.

Eli Atkinson was second in the 100 free in 52.03 with Moskus third (54.02) and Peters fourth (58.29).

Lindstrom won his second race of the meet by taking first in the 500 free in 4:58.45. Powell was second (6:04.18), Dowling third (6:55.26) and Ma fourth (6:56.66).

The team of Atkinson, Moskus, Stewart and Lindstrom won the 200 free relay in 1:37.02. The team of Jiang, Huang, Peters and Foss touched second in 1:44.19.

Huron dominated the backstroke with John Gao taking first in 1:00.71 followed by O’Neal (1:01.31), Bryce Yung (1:06.67) and Kal Bunnell (1:09.54).

The River Rats took the top three spots in the breaststroke with Atkinson first (1:07.92), Jiang second (1:08.23) and Huang third (1:10.33).

The Huron foursome of Lindstrom, Peters, Foss and Gao swam to a first-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:47.89. The team of Yung, Powell, O’Neal and Wang was second in 4:01.11.
