Swimming: River Rats dunk South Lyon, Canton in non-conference dual meets

The Huron boys’ swimming and diving team headed into break with a couple of nice dual-meet victories. The River Rats defeated South Lyon 97-86 on Dec. 17 and topped Canton 109-61 on Dec. 10.

In the win over South Lyon, Huron was runner-up in the medley relay as the team of Ji Ung Hyun, Kevin Zhou, Eli Atkinson and Brian Moskus touched a very close second in 1:44.61 (South Lyon won in 1:44.20). The Huron team of Noah Flott, Dylan Schmitzerle, Sean Underwood and Alex Moskus took third in 1:51.09.

Huron went one-two in the 200 free with Ben Hires (1:52.94) and Drew Lindstrom (1:53.00). Atkinson won the 200 IM in 1:59.41 and Schmitzerle was third in 2:08.92. The River Rats also went one-two in the 50 free with Brian Moskus (24.09) and Kevin Zhou (24.14).

Lindstrom was second in the butterfly in 56.07. Flott won the 100 free (52.05) with Hyun in second (54.27). Hires won the 500 free (5:02.42) with Brian Moskus third (5:22.20).

The Huron 200 free relay team of Zhou, Schmitzerle, Lindstrom and Hires won in 1:36.50. The River Rats team of Alex Moskus, Tyler Gibbs, Underwood and Ian Powell was third in 1:42.55.

In the backstroke, Atkinson was second (55.55) and Flott third (1:00.25).

Zhou was second (1:04.35) and Schmitzerle third (1:06.16) in the breaststroke.

Huron’s team of Atkinson, Lindstrom, Flott and Hires won the 400 free relay in 3:32.10. The team of Hyun, Powell, Gibbs and Brian Moskus was third in 3:42.38.

The River Rats opened their meet against Canton with a win in the medley relay. The team of Atkinson, Zhou, Lindstrom and Brian Moskus won in 1:46.32.

Huron’s individual winners included Hires in the 200 free (1:55.01), Atkinson in the 200 IM (2:02.19) and the 100 free (50.28), Schmitzerle in the 50 free (24.40), Lindstrom in the 500 free (5:05.05), and Zhou in the breaststroke (1:06.34).

The 200 free relay team of Zhou, Brian Moskus, Hyun and Hires won in 1:38.78 and the 400 free relay team of Atkinson, Lindstrom, Schmitzerle and Hires took first in 3:27.43.
