Swimming: Pioneers swim past rival Huron in SEC Red dual-meet

The Pioneer swimming and diving team swam past city rival Huron 141-44 on Thursday in an SEC Red dual-meet. The Pioneers, the defending state champions, won all but two of the individual events and swept the relays.

Pioneer also edged – and we mean edged – Northville 95-91 in a non-league dual-meet featuring two of the best programs in the state on Saturday. The victory keeps Pioneer’s record perfect in dual-meets this season.

In the meet against Huron, the Pioneers opened things up with a win in the medley relay. The team of Stella Chapman, Reese Heidenreich, Sophia Guo and Allison Yadmark touched first in 1 minute, 51.98 seconds. Pioneer’s team of Bridgette Kamara, Ursula Ott, Meg Pinkerton and Lucy Mehraban took second in 1:51.98. Huron’s team of Catherine Huang, Jasmine Xu, Sawako Sakamoto and Ece Uyulur was third in 2:00.32.

Huron’s Xu jumped right back into the pool and won the 200 free in 1:58.71. Kate Van Ryn was second (2:03.00) and Amani Sanogo was third (2:07.13) for Pioneer.

The Pioneers swept the next two events.

In the 200 IM, Heidenreich won the 200 IM in 2:16.62 with Ott in second (2:17.85) and Kamara third (2:21.20). Chapman won the 50 free in 24.14 with Mehraban second (24.51) and Guo third (24.63).

Pioneer’s Arianna Pagel won diving with 189.22 points. Teammate Grace Daly was second (176.86) and Huron’s Claire Leone was third (136.21 points).

Huron’s Huang won the 100 butterfly in 1:08.45. Pioneer’s Pinkerton was second (1:09.26) and Gracie Hou third (1:09.86).

Pioneer swept the 100 free with Guo first (53.82), Mehraban second (53.93) and Ott third (55.20).

Pioneer’s Ava Griffith went the distance to win the 500 free in 5:54.13. Teammate Peren Boduch was second in 6:00.96 and Huron’s Jane Hu was third (6:11.71).

Pioneer’s team of Yadmark, Campbell, Hou and Sanogo took first in the 200 free relay in 1:48.09. Pioneer’s team of Weyhing, Madeline Baybeck, Rachel Brewbaker and Ava Griffith took second in 1:53.59.

In the backstroke, Kamara took first for Pioneer in 1:01.49. Huron’s Sakamoto was second (1:01.98) and Pioneer’s Van Ryn was third (1:04.52).

Chapman led a Pioneer sweep in the breaststroke with her winning time of 1:06.98. Alexandra Hannah was second (1:15.97) and Brewbaker third (1:19.99).

Pioneer’s team of Kamara, Heidenreich, Guo and Mehraban won the 400 free relay in 3:42.06. Pioneer’s team of Pinkerton, Ott, Van Ryn and Chapman was a very close second in 3:42.06.
