Swimming: Pioneers cruise past rival Huron in SEC Red matchup

The Pioneer boys’ swimming and diving team remained on course Thursday evening as the defending state champions knocked off rival Huron 140-36 in an SEC Red Division showdown at Pioneer.

On course for what? Big things – very big things!

The River Rats are a very good team but the Pioneers are at a different level and proved it in the opening medley relay. The Pioneer team o Jack Wilkening, Caleb Rice, Justin Su and Jensen Wood touched first in 1 minute, 39.53 seconds. Pioneer also took second as the team of Isaac Almeida, Alex Farmer, Robert Yang and Harrison Sanders finished in 1:39.95.

The Huron group of Joe O’Neal, Daniel Huang, Drew Lindstrom and Franek Orlowski took third in 1:43.86.

Pioneer dominated the 200 free as Ryan Hume took first (1:44.13), Teodor Jaworski was second (1:45.61) and Gabriel Burks was third (1:50.64).

Yang took first (2:01.46) and Farmer second (2:05.16) for Pioneer in the 200 IM. Huron’s O’Neal was third (2:10.67).

Burks won a very fast 50 free with a time of 22.15 seconds with Sanders a touch behind in second in 22.62. Huron’s Lindstrom was a close third (22.63) with Pioneer’s Rice fourth (22.65).

Pioneer’s Gabriel Mercier won the diving with 237.80 points.

Rice won the butterfly in 53.90 with Wilkening second (54.34), Isaac Almeida third (57.93) and Gabriel Almeida fourth (59.25) for the Pioneers. Huron’s Jaden Martin was fifth (1:02.54).

Pioneer dominated the 100 free with Jaworski first (49.61), Farmer second (49.73) and Su third (49.75).

Hume returned to the winner’s circle in the 500 free as he took first in 4:44.81. Lindstrom was second (4:45.55), Wood was third (4:59.62) and Yang fourth (5:08.73) for the Pioneers. Huron’s Kenneth Jiang was fifth in 5:40.89.
The Pioneer foursome of Wilkening, Sanders, Su and Hume won the 200 free relay in 1:29.11. The Pioneer team of Burks, Farmer, Jaworski and Rice touched second in 1:29.77. Huron’s group of Alex Moskus, Huang, Orlowski and John Gao took third in 1:35.93.

In the backstroke, Isaac Almeida was first (55.75), Christopher Leuciuc was second (57.18) and Matthew DeBona was third (59.84) for the Pioneers.

Wilkening won the breaststroke in 1:01.77 with Huron’s Huang second in 1:03.14 and Pioneer’s Gabriel Almeida third in 1:03.55.

Pioneer went one-two in the 400 free relay. The team of Yang, Jaworski, Wood and Lipham took first in 3:22.79 and the team of Hume, Burks, DeBona and Leuciuc was second in 3:23.14. Huron’s team of Lindstrom, Gao, Moskus and Jiang was third in 3:33.18.
