Swimming: Pioneers cruise past Monroe in SEC dual-meet

The Pioneer boys’ swimming and diving team made quick work of Monroe with a 143-40 win in an SEC dual-meet on Jan. 5.

The Pioneer team of Isaac Almeida, Christopher Leuciuc, Justin Su and Vaughn Boutell won the opening 200 Yard Medley Relay Team Relay with a time of 1:45.01. The team of Henry Baumhover, Young Jun, Cam Kline and Henry Colvig took second.

Edward Zhang won the 200 free 1:45.01 with Alec Lipham second (1:47.56) and Gabriel Sanchez-Burks third (1:53.20). Baumhover won the 200 IM in 2:01.97 with Jun second (2:08.30) and Almeida third (2:09.11).

In the 50 freestyle, Leuciuc took first in 22.60 seconds and Kevin Li was third (25.53).

Gabriel Mercier won diving with 287.05 points.

In the 100 butterfly, Su touched first in 54.85 seconds with Oleksandr Gladunin second (1:01.56) and Li third (1:04.22).  In the 100 free, Lipham took first in 50.04 with Jensen Wood second (51.44).

Zhang won the 500 free in 4:44.14 with Sanchez-Burks taking second in 5:03.62 and Kline taking third in 5:16.80.

The Pioneer team of Sanchez-Burks, Colvig, Zhang and Lipham won the 200 free relay in 1:33.73. The team of Jun, Han, Wood and Kline took second in 1:36.05.

In the backstroke, Leuciuc was first in 55.97 followed by Almeida (56.96) and Henry Baumhover (57.56). In the breaststroke, Jun was first in 1:02.57 followed by Han (1:08.19) and Thomas McTigue (1:11.11).

In the 400 free relay, the Pioneer team of Lipham, Baumhover, Su and Wood touched first in 3:19.82. The team of Zhang, Leuciuc, Sanchez-Burks and Han was second.
