Swimming: Pioneer swims past rival Skyline in SEC dual-meet

The Pioneer girls’ swimming team defeated rival Skyline 118-68 in an early season dual-meet last week. The two teams each brought out the best in one another with impressive times, especially for early September.

In the medley relay, the Pioneer team of Bridgette Kamara, Ursula Ott, Meg Pinkerton, and Kate Van Ryn touched first in 1 minute, 53.32 seconds. Skyline’s team of Shannen Lee, Sophia Nielsen, Allie Deininger and Lauren MacNeil was second in 1:57.06. Pioneer’s team of Madeline Baybeck, Reese Heidenreich, Allison Yadmark, and Eva Woods was third in 1:58.18.

Skyline’s Lily Cleason won the 200 free in 1:56.56 and teammate Annabel Balazer was second in 1:58.21. Pioneer’s Yan Yee Adler was third in 1:59.01.

In the 200 IM, Pioneer’s Stella Chapman cruised to a win with a time of 2:04.13. Skyline’s Maya Goldstein was second in 2:18.36 and Pioneer’s Heidenreich was third (2:18.59).

Pioneer went one-two in the 50 free with Lucy Mehraban touching first in 24.52 followed by teammate Ott in 25.56. Lee was third for Skyline in 25.70.

Pioneer’s Grace Daly won diving with 185.85 points. Skyline’s Violet Schrag was a very close second (185.45 points) and Pioneer’s Arianna Pagel was third with 175.10 points.

Pioneer took the top three spots in the butterfly with Chapman first (56.11), Guo second (1:01.38) and Woods third (1:02.58).

Pioneer’s Mehraban won a close race in the 100 free with a time of 52.67. Skyline’s Cleason was a touch behind in 54.00. Pioneer’s Bridgette Kamara was third in 56.56.

Balazer went 5:15.90 to win the 500 free for the Eagles. Pioneer’s Adler was second in 5:18.99 with Pioneer’s Amani Sanogo third in 5:54.47.

Pioneer’s foursome o Guo, Mehraban, Ott and Chapman went 1:39.31 to win the 200 free relay. Skyline’s team o Lee, Cleason, Deininger and Balazer touched in 1:41.34 to take second. Pioneer’s team of Van Ryn, Woods, Yadmark and Pinkerton was third in 1:45.04.

Kamara won the backstroke in 1:00.14 for Pioneer. Maya Goldstein was second (1:03.00) and Lee third (1:05.00) for the Eagles.

In the breaststroke, Pioneer took the top three spots with Heidenreich first (1:08.52), Ott second (1:09.71) and Woods third (1:13.42).

Pioneer’s team of Chapman, Mehraban, Adler and Guo won the 400 free relay in 3:38.11. Skyline’s team of Balazer, Sofia Torres, MacNeil and Cleason took second in 3:50.47. Pioneer’s team of Campbell, Ava Griffith, Kamara and Heidenreich took third in 3:57.27.
