Swimming: Pioneer, Skyline shine at SEC Championships
Pioneer welcomed the incredibly talented SEC Red Division teams to Hill Pool last weekend for the always fast and competitive league championships. Pioneer earned a share of the league title by taking second place at the championships and going undefeated during the regular season.
Saline also shared a part of the title after racking up 586 points and taking first at the league tournament. Pioneer was second with 570 points followed by Skyline (354), Huron (346), Bedford (183) and Monroe (123).
SEC Champion and All-Conference Honors from Pioneer were won by the 200 medley relay (Quoia Sam, Amelia Weyhing, Holly Pringle, Lucy Mehraban), Lily Cramer (200 IM), Lucy Mehraban (50 free), 200 free relay (Autumn Bullinger, Lily Cramer, Vivian VanRenterghem, Amelia Weyhing), and 400 free relay (Lucy Mehraban, Vivian VanRenterghem, Holly Pringle, Lily Cramer).
All Conference Honors were also earned by Vivian VanRenterghem (2nd – 200 free & 2nd – 100 free), Alex Mercier (2nd – Diving), Lindsay Orringer-Hau (3rd – 100 fly), Lucy Mehraban (3rd – 500 free), Autumn Bullinger (3rd – 100 back), and Lily Cramer (3rd – 100 breast).
Additional Pioneer scorers included the 10th place medley relay (Lindsay Orringer-Hau, Edwina Jalet, Sophia Guo, Eva Woods), Sophia Guo (4th – 200 free & 5th – 100 free), Eva Woods (9th – 200 free & 9th – 500 free), Edwina Jalet (6th – 200 IM & 6th – 100 breast), Hanna Kharchenko (9th – 200 IM), Jeannie Liu (11th – 200 IM & 10th – 100 fly), Amelia Weyhing (5th – 50 free & 5th – 100 breast), Autumn Bullinger (6th – 50 free), Lauren Batra (9th – 50 free & 8th – 100 free), Sefina Patterson (8th – Diving), Tierney Fraidenburg (10th – Diving), Jordan Marion (12th – Diving), Holly Pringle (5th – 100 fly & 7th – 100 back), Dayna Houston (12th – 100 fly), Quoia Sam (7th – 100 free & 8th – 100 back), Lindsay Orringer-Hau (5th – 500 free), Evelyn Broughton (15th – 500 free), 10th place 200 free relay (Sophia Guo, Edwina Jalet, Lauren Batra, Eva Woods), Kate Lindstrom (15th – 100 back), Jiayou Shen (15th – 100 breast), and 10th place 400 free relay (Lindsay Orringer-Hau, Lauren Batra, Quoia Sam, Autumn Bullinger).
A new state qualification cut was earned by Eva Woods in the 200 free.
Skyline also had plenty of standout performances and it started early on with the medley relay. The team of Lily Cleason, Emma Pettigrew, Claire Kozma and Allison Haak touched second in 1:49.10.
Haak, a senior, took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:50.68. Sophomore Gina Sadler was sixth in 1:57.62.
Cleason was seventh in the 200 IM in 2:14.39 and Pettigrew was eighth (2:20.15).
In the 50 free, Kozma, a sophomore, was third in 24.55.
Peyton Horning was 13th in diving with 252.40 points. Jill Vaitkevicius was 14th (238.60) and Maddie Robins was 15th (192.25).
In the butterfly, Kozma was fourth in 58.78.
Skyline’s Madison Deininger was sixth in the 100 free in 54.94.
Haak won her second individual race after going the distance in the 500 free with a first-place time of 4:58.60. Sadler was sixth in 5:14.56.
The Eagles (Ella Enrique Shakespeare, Erika Sauld, Aly Guevara and Madison Deininger) took fourth in the 200 free relay in 1:43.47.
In the backstroke, Cleason was fifth in 59.52.
In the breaststroke, Alison Lock was 10th in 1:08.63.
The team of Kozma, Deininger, Cleason and Haak took third in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:35.47.
