Swimming: Pioneer races past Groves in battle of state’s top teams

It was the battle of No. 1 teams in the state on Saturday and the local team came out on top. And it wasn’t even close.

Pioneer, ranked No. 1 in the state in Division 1, hosted Birmingham Groves, ranked No. 1 in Division 2 for a dual-meet of swimming powerhouses. The Pioneers swam off with a convincing 109-67 win at Hill Pool in the non-league matchup.

The Pioneers had two more athletes earn State Cuts, bringing the team’s State team to nine members – so far.
