Swimming: Pioneer keeps splashing along with win over Huron
The Pioneer girls’ swimming and diving team hosted city rival Huron on Thursday and the No. 1 team in the state had few problems with the River Rats. The Pioneers remained undefeated on the season with a 151-34 victory in which they won every event, including all three relays.
But the River Rats shouldn’t feel bad – Pioneer does that to everyone.
Pioneer took the top four spots in the opening medley relay. The team of Holly Pringle, Yan Yee Adler, Lily Cramer and Allison Yadmark touching first in 1 minute, 51.73 seconds.
The Pioneers took the top three spots in the 200 free: Vivian VanRenterghem was first (1:54.62), Autumn Bullinger was second (1:59.33) and Stella Chapman third (2:02.79). Huron’s Sawako Sakamoto was fourth (2:06.99).
Pioneer also dominated the 200 IM with Amelia Weyhing first (2:13.27), Pringle a very close second (2:13.38) and Sophia Guo third (2:15.06).
Adler touched first in the 50 free with a time of 25.79 seconds. Huron’s Zannah Baker was a very close second in 25.94. Pioneer’s Meg Pinkerton was third (26.08) and teammate Reese Heidenreich was fourth (26.31).
Pioneer’s Alexandra Mercier won diving with 260.95 points. Teammate Grace Daly was second (169.65) and Heather D’Alecy third (143.40).
Pringle continued her impressive meet by winning the 100 butterfly in 59.83. Guo was second (1:02.49) and Eva Woods third (1:03.12) for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers took the top three spots in the 100 free with Edwina Jalet first (53.48), Gracie Hou second (58.38) and Bridgette Kamara third (59.68). Huron’s Kathryn Hemmila was fourth (1:00.17).
In the 500 free, Bullinger took first with a time of 5:20.19. Heidenreich was second (5:40.55) and Rachel Brewbaker third (5:45.69) for Pioneer. Huron’s Ayaka Sakamoto was fourth (6:26.32) and teammate Felicia Sang was fifth (6:41.33).
Pioneer’s team of Chapman, Pringle, Pinkerton and Brewbaker won the 200 free relay in 1:42.22.
In the backstroke, Chapman took first with a time of 55.84. Cramer was second (1:00.51) and Kamara third (1:01.51).
The Pioneers took the top three spots in the breaststroke with Adler first (1:06.16), Cramer second (1:07.37) and Megan Garrett third (1:14.58).
Pioneer’s 400 relay team of VanRenterghem, Weyhing, Adler and Cramer took first in 3:39.95.
