Swimming: Pioneer junior Matthew Segal makes verbal commitment to Wisconsin
Pioneer swimmer Matthew Segal recently gave his verbal commitment to The University of Wisconsin at Madison and is excited about becoming a Badger – when he’s done being a Pioneer.
“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic careers at the University of Wisconsin at Madison,” said Segal, who is a junior at Pioneer. “The coaches, team and culture of Wisconsin was everything I had hoped to find. I am excited to join such an amazing program. I want to thank my family, coaches and teammates for all the help and encouragement along the way. I can’t wait to be a part of this incredible team.”
The Pioneer boys’ swimming and diving team finished sixth at the state meet last year. Segal, as a sophomore, placed third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:40.94 and touched fourth in the breaststroke in 55.85. He also was a member of Pioneer’s 400 free relay team which placed fifth and the 200 free relay team which finished 11th.
He also swims for Club Wolverine and the Huron Valley Swim Club.
Matthew, the son of Jon and Kirsten Segal, has a 4.0 grade-point average.
