By Margaret Baker
If Saturday’s Freshman/Sophomore meet in Dexter is any indication, Huron’s Women’s Swim/Dive team is in good shape for the future. Top five scorers were many, including two Rat event winners, sophomores Zannah Baker (26.05) in the 50 Free, and Emma Kaipainen (1:15:80) in the 100 Breast. Baker also took 2nd in the 100 Free (57.41), with Kaipainen, 4th (1:02.25) in that event.
Sophomore Ayaka Sakamoto was 2nd in the 100 Breast (1:5;99) and also went 2-3 in the 200 IM (2:32.04) with fellow sophomore Felicia Sang (2:34.49). In the distance 500 Free event, sophomore Kathryn Hemmila (4:34.15) was 2nd, with sophomore Ezgi Poyraz (4:49.50), 5th. Poyraz touched in 3rd in the 200 Free (2:12.16), and promising freshman, Catherine Li, in 4th in the 100 Back (1:08.68).
Huron’s speedy young squads finished 2nd in both the 200 Free Relay (Baker, Kaipainen, Sakamoto, and Hemmila), in 1:49.28; and the 200 Medley Relay (Li, Sakamoto, sophomore Cali Streeter, and Baker) in 2:01.29; and 3rd in the 400 Free Relay (Hemmila, sophomore Lydia Hargett, Li, and C. Streeter), in 4:10.17.
On the board for the Rats was an enthusiastic group of fairly new divers. Sophomore Maggie Thomas (161.45) was 7th; freshman Kaela Redding tied for 10th with sophomore Sitara Baxendale (122.70); freshman Abigail Meggison (115.35), finished 12th; and sophomore Helen Dean (2.50), 13th.
