Swimming: Huron races past Canton in non-league dual meet

The Huron Men’s Swim/Dive Team recorded a definitive victory last week at the Ratatorium with a 114-72 win over visiting Canton in a non-league dual-meet.
Canton’s Ryan Gurgel won the 200 Free (1:46.22) and the 100 Fly (52.79), but the Rats took every other individual event. River Rat senior/captain Joe O’Neal touched first in the 200 IM (2:09.22) and the 100 Back (56.48), and senior Peter Fazekas won the 50 Free (22.79) and the 100 Free (50.80). Other Huron event winners were Franek Orlowski in the 500 (5:24.74), and Kyle Smith in the 100 Breast (1:05.53).
Also scoring points for the Rats in the individuals were as follows. In the 200 free, Orlowski, 3rd (1:56.53), junior Kal Bunnell, 4th (2:00.75), and junior Jeffrey Wang, 5th (2:01.57); in the 200 IM, senior/captain Kenneth Jiang, 2nd (2:13.47), and freshman Luke Bunnell, 5th (2:27.77); in the 50 free, senior/captain Alex Moskus, 2nd (23.92), and junior Graham Baker, 3rd (24.54); in the 100 Fly, Smith, 2nd (59.08), Ethan , 3rd, (1:00.94), and freshman Camp Streeter, 5th (1:03.23); in the 100 Free, Moskus, 3rd (53.32) and Baker, 5th (57.31); in the 500 Free, K. Bunnell, 2nd (5:28.42) and Wang, 4th (5:40.88); in the 100 Back, Yegor Ivanov, 2nd (1:02.29), Evan Ngo, 3rd (1:02.98), and Alex Harris, a non-scoring 5th (1:10.54); and in the 100 Breast, Jiang, 2nd (1:05.66), and Streeter, 3rd (1:12:51).
On the board, Canton’s Brett Whalen (205.10) was first, with Max Farnsworth (152.70), in 2nd. For the Rats, James Hutmacher dove 3rd (149.55) with junior Dean Molnar III taking 5th place points (93.35). Junior Omar Abulhak also dove for the Rats (91.95).
Huron’s relays made a fine showing. IN the 200 Medley relay event, they took both 1st (O’Neal, Fazekas, Smith, Moskus) touching in 1:43.96, and 2nd (Ngo, Jiang, Yung, and Baker), finishing at 1:51.17. Canton’s “A” (Gurgel, Ethan Buzuvis, Max Lin, and Talan Litner) outswam Huron for 1st in the 200 Relay (1:36.08), but Huron’s “A” (Jiang, Smith, K. Bunnell, Orlowski) easily took 2nd (1:38.40) and the “B” (L. Bunnell, Streeter, Baker, and Wang) swam for 3rd (1:43.86). Finally, Canton’s 400 Free team of Gurgel, Litner, Lin, and Buzuvis, cruised to victory (3:31.08), but Huron’s “A” (Fazekas, Moskus, Orlowski and O’Neal) finished 2nd in 3:38.01 with Yung, Wang, K. Bunnell, and Ngo taking 3rd (3:46.76).
Huron next faces Skyline at home Thursday, Jan. 19. Kick-off is at 6 p.m.
