Swimming: Huron opens league season with close win over Dexter

The Huron swimming and diving team opened the SEC Red Division regular season on Thursday and knocked off a strong Dexter team 97-88. The River Rats won two of the three relays and had strong showings from their front-line swimmers in the individual races.

Huron opened the meet with a win in the medley relay. The team of Joe O’Neal, Kenneth Jiang, John Gao and Alex Moskus touched first with a time of 1 minute, 44.80 seconds.

Huron’s Frank Orlowski was second in the 200 free in 1:57.85.

The River Rats took the top three spots in the IM with Gao (first, 2:04.74), O’Neal (second, 2:07.50) and Jiang (third, 2:14.99).

Peter Fazekas was second in the 50 free (22.76) with Moskus a touch behind in third (23.64). James Hutmacher was second in diving with 132.5 points. Kyle Smith was second in the butterfly (58.91) with Camp Streeter third (1:01.01) and Ethan Yung fourth (1:06.43). Fazekas was second (52.42) and Moskus third (53.79) in the 100 free.

Huron’s team of Jiang, Moskus, Kal Bunnell and Orlowski won the 200 free relay in 1:39.69.

With the meet on the line, the River Rats finished strong to land in the win column.

Huron went one-two in the backstroke with O’Neal first (56.07) and Gao second (56.87). They took the top three spots in the breaststroke with Jiang first (1:05.67), Smith second (1:06.68) and Streeter third (1:10.28).

Huron’s team of Bunnell, Orlowski, Gao and O’Neal took second in the 400 free relay in 3:37.95.
