Swimming: Huron has plenty of highlights in loss to Saline
By Margaret Baker
The Huron girls’ swimming and diving team hosted a stacked Saline team, Thursday, Oct. 18 in the Ratatorium. The Hornets scored a 136-50 dual-meet victory over the River Rats.
There were plenty of Huron highlights.
Junior Annaliese Streeter took two events for the Rats, the 50 Free with a D1 time (24.00) and the 100 Breast (1:05.19), also with a state cut time, and junior Clara Bowman touched in 2nd in the 100 Back (1:05.30), just behind Saline’s Samantha Graden (1:04.06). Senior/captain Anna Leone took 3rd in the 100 Breast (1:11.19), and sophomore Zannah Baker, 3rd in the 50 free (25.56). Huron’s “A” (Z. Baker, sophomore Kathryn Hammila, freshman Catherine Li, and A. Streeter) also scored second-place points in the 400 Free relay (3:54.55), with C. Li going under a minute in the 100 Free for her first time.
The big story for the Rats this season is the qualification of six divers for Diving Regionals: seniors Sami Ruud and Anna Boerst; juniors Annie Costello and Julie Park; sophomore Maggie Thomas; and freshman Hannah Margolis. It is only the second time in her long career that Coach Vicki Kimball has seen so many divers qualify.
Congratulations to these elegant, talented, twisting, somersaulting Rats!
Huron hosts Monroe on Thursday, Oct. 24 for its last season dual meet. Tri-captain seniors, A. Leone, Kristina Holcombe and Faith Baker, Ruud, Boerst, Liz Li and Emmy Seth will be honored for the annual Senior Night.
