Swimming: Eagles open season with victory over SEC foe Bedford
The Skyline boys’ swimming and diving team opened up the season in the win column with a convincing 146-40 win on Tuesday night over Bedford in an SEC Red Division matchup.
The Eagles opened with a win in the 200 medley relay. The team of Ben Deininger, Daniel Osterholzer, Ben Kurniawan and Matthew Lee took first place with a time of 1:37.43.
Skyline went one-two in the 200 freestyle with sophomore Lucas Caswell first (1:49.94) and Andy Xi second (1:53.90).
Skyline senior Evan McKelvey won the 200 IM in 2:01.77.
Lee, a senior, won the 50 free in 21.62. Kurniawan was third (22.32) and Jack Staunton fourth (22.82).
Skyline freshman Stuart Knight was second in diving with 180.05 points.
The Eagles went one-two in the 100 butterfly with the Kurniawan brothers leading the way. Ben, a senior, was first in 51.32. Chris, a sophomore, was second in 57.49.
Swimming along to the 100 freestyle, McKelvey won his second race of the day with a time of 47.56. Lee was second in 47.71.
Caswell won his second race with a time of 4:56.22 to take first in the 500 free. Xi, another sophomore, was second in 5:09.69.
Skyline went one-two in the 200 free relay. The team of McKelvey, Ben Kurniawan, Lee and Caswell touched first in 1:28.94. The team of Jack Staunton, Lewis McCammon, Sawyer Thompson and Xi took second in 1:37.05.
In the backstroke, Deininger was first (55.84) followed by Chris Kurniawan (1:00.06), McKelvey (1:00.89) and Coleson Probst (1:01.13).
Osterholzer won the breaststroke in 1:02.09 followed by Staunton (1:03.74), McCammon (1:07.60) and Soren Nielsen (1:10.23).
The Skyline team of McKelvey, Ben Edlund, Deininger and Caswell won the 400 free relay in 3:26.85.
