Swimming: Eagles fly to two victories in tri-meet with Chelsea, Ypsilanti

The Skyline swimming and diving team welcomed Chelsea and Ypsilanti to town on Thursday and splashed up a pair of easy wins. The Eagles won two of the three relays and took first place in every individual swimming event.

The Eagles won the opening medley relay as the team of Atticus Dewey, Derek Mrachko, Ben Kurniawan and Ben Deininger touched first in 1:42.66. The foursome of Nick Cordell, Daniel Osterholzer, Lewis McCammon and Jack Staunton placed third in 1:54.24.

Grant Gorman won the 200 free in 1:55.66 with Deininger second (1:55.70) and teammate Ben Edlund third (2:06.47).

Skyline took the top three spots in the 200 IM with Matthew Lee first (2:06.45), Evan McKelvey second (2:10.65) and Conor Pyle third (2:11.46).

In the 50 freestyle, Skyline went one-two with Dewey (22.99) and Mrachko (23.43).

Skyline freshman Charlie Andrew-Vaughan was third in diving with 138.55 points.

The Eagles took the top three spots in the butterfly with Mrachko (58.97), Grant Gorman (1:01.05) and Edlund (1:16.09).

McKelvey won the 100 free in 50.54 followed by teammates Kurniawan (50.68), Deininger (53.85) and John Evangelista (56.17).

Staunton won the 500 free in 5:26.21. Soren Nielsen was second (5:38.8) and McCammon third (5:57.98).

Skyline (McKelvey, Staunton, Deininger and Mrachko) took second in the 200 free relay in 1:34.53. Chelsea took first in 1:34.30 – yeah, that’s pretty close.

Kurniawan won the backstroke in 54.82 followed by Dewey (56.20), Owen Schadler (1:05.85), Coleson Probst (1:06.19) and Nick Cordell (1:11.67).

In the breaststroke, Pyle took first with a time of 1:05.33. Daniel Osterholzer was second (1:05.51), Daniel Koselka (1:06.91) and Staunton (1:08.27).
In the 400 free relay, the Skyline foursome of McKelvey, Dewey, Gorman and Kurniawan took first in 3:24.07.
