Softball: Eagles score 8-6 win over Lincoln in opener of DH
The Skyline softball team scored five runs in the fourth inning and held on for an 8-6 win over Lincoln in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Eagles also scored one run in the first, fifth and sixth innings on 10 hits.
Lincoln committed four errors while Skyline had two errors.
The Eagles took the lead to stay with that five-run fourth inning. Aliya Alam singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run, Reyna Hyliard singled on the first pitch of the at-bat to plate two runs, and Esther Cohen singled on a 1-2 count to drive in two more runs.
Skyline’s Carson Fox surrendered six runs on seven hits over seven innings, striking out six to earn the win.
The Railsplitters scored three in the second, two in the fifth and one in the sixth before Fox shut the door in the seventh.
Gabbie Toth (two runs scored) and Jordan Hall each had two hits for the Eagles. Cohen and Hyliard (two runs scored) each had two RBI.
Lincoln came back in the nightcap and used a seven-run third inning to knock off the host Eagles 12-6. The Railsplitters had 15 hits in just four innings.
The Eagles scored four in the third and two in the fourth on seven hits.
Toth had another big game with two hits and two runs scored and an RBI. Megan Bondy had a hit, RBI and two walks. Hall had a hit and two RBI.
