Soccer: Pioneer kicks Bedford 6-1 in SEC match – with WLAA Photogallery

The Pioneer boys’ soccer team scored five goals in a 10-minute span in the first half on Thursday and cruised to a dominant 6-1 victory over Bedford in an SEC Red Division game at Pioneer.

The Pioneers could have scored 10 goals in the first half if not for some impressive saves by the Bedford keeper and a few not-so-impressive finishes by the home team. Still, Pioneer dominated play and once they got on the board there was little the Kicking Mules could do about it – including kicking a few Pioneers in the penalty box.

Pioneer improved to 4-0-1 on the season and despite being young, could just play their way into the mix in the tough SEC Red Division.

James Cameron’s header at 26:43 got the home team on the board in the first half. It was a perfect redirect from the junior forward and nothing the Bedford keeper could do to keep it out of the net.

Less than 2 minutes later, junior Brendan Novar fired a low rocket from 20 yards out that also found the back of the net.

Less than a minute later, Jackson Hall sent a beautiful cross into the box that Daniel Gutenberg one-timed with a perfect strike to make it 3-0.

Gutenberg then riffled a shot into the upper left corner on a penalty kick to push the lead to 4-0 with 19:38 left in the half.

Austin Jacobs hit a laser on his penalty-kick attempt to make it 5-0.

Hall scored the Pioneer’s second-half goal.
