Skyline Crew to host Midwest and State Championships Spring 2022
Skyline Crew for the past 4 years has been working with the Washtenaw Rowing Center to develop a National Championship level course in Michigan.
This goal will be achieved by Spring 2022 with the Kathryn Bennett Race Course being installed at Kensington Metropark during the racing season of April and May each year. This course will be 8 lanes wide (most courses are 6 lanes), 1500m long (the scholastic national racing distance) and the first of its kind in Michigan and one of a handful in the entire Midwest region.
The new course will see the Mitten Racing Series being run each spring over the course of 3 races. This year, Skyline was successful in securing the bid to host the Midwest Championships (7 states) and the State Championships.
This new course will positively impact all local rowing programs, but Skyline is excited to call the new race course home and will co-host events with Northville HS who row out the park daily. Skyline will continue to complete practices and training on the Huron River / Gallup Park out of their usual site, Concordia University.
