Season Preview: FGR tennis returns 11 seniors off last year’s successful team

Coach Jim Sayed enters his 14th season as head coach of the Father Gabriel Richard tennis team. And he’s got an experienced team to work with in 2019.

With 11 seniors in the lineup, the Irish will serve up plenty of depth, experience and talent.

“Our goal is to work hard and use our experience as an advantage,” Sayed said.

The Irish are coming off another strong season. They went 10-1 in dual matches last season and were Catholic League Division Champs. They also were a Regional Finalist and finished fifth at the State Tournament.

Top returning players include senior captains Ian Sood (one singles), Tommy Heegan (two singles) and Rafid Farjo (three singles).

FGR opened the season Aug. 21 at Brighton.
