Profile: Logan fifth-grader heading to Sweden for elite soccer tournament
Some people dream of playing a sport at the highest level. Some people dream of traveling to places like Sweden. Philip Leucht is on his way to accomplishing both things – and he’s only in the fifth grade.
Of course, Philip isn’t playing for Manchester City or even Sporting Kansas City anytime soon – did we mention he’s only in the fifth grade – but he is playing soccer at a very high level for his age group. He has been selected to play in the Gothia Cup 2019 in Sweden this summer with Coerver Michigan Performance Academy.
“I can’t wait to attend my first international tournament and play soccer with kids my age from other countries,” Philip says.
The Logan Elementary fifth-grader is an attacking midfielder who plays travel soccer with the Michigan Jags U11 Boys Green.
“I like that we all work hard and are friends off the field even though we don’t go to the same school,” Philip says. “We also have a good coach and we enjoy working hard in practice.”
He also trains with Coerver Academy with the master level boys group – the highest training group – and from this group, he was selected to compete in Sweden.
