NKFM: Try a no-cost Matter of Balance virtual workshop this winter
ANN ARBOR — It’s challenging to stay fit during cold weather and short days. Try a no-cost virtual fitness program from the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) called A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls. This virtual workshop helps older adults prevent falls and reduce the fear of falling. The workshop also helps participants safely increase their physical activity, learn strategies to prevent falls and improve balance and flexibility.
Each workshop includes step-by-step instruction, which is helpful for those who have not exercised before or in a long time. The eight-week virtual workshop, which is open to any adult 65 and older, meets weekly over Zoom. The class requires a computer or other device with internet access and a camera. A meeting link will be sent to registered participants. There is no cost to participate but donations are always welcome.

If you have not exercised in a while, talk to your doctor first about increasing your physical activity. If you do not have a doctor because you do not have health insurance, consider applying for health care coverage, including Medicaid, through your local county health department.
