NKFM: No-cost online Matter of Balance courses start in January
DETROIT — Ready for some physical activity after holidays? Is “get more exercise” on your New Year’s resolutions list. The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is hosting two A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls workshops online to help older adults prevent falls and reduce the fear of falling. This workshop can help you:
-Safely increase your physical activity level
-Learn practical strategies to manage falls
-Make changes at home to reduce falls
-Improve balance and flexibility
The eight-week workshops meet weekly over Zoom. The classes require a computer or other device with internet access and a camera. A meeting link will be sent to registered participants. There is no cost to participate in the workshop but donations are always welcome. Any adult 65 and older in Michigan can join the workshops:
A Matter of Balance workshops over Zoom
#1. Information Session – Wednesday, January 5, 2022 – 10:00 to 11:00 am
Eight sessions – Every Wednesday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on January 12 to 26; February 2 to 23; and March 2
#2. Information Session – Thursday, January 6, 2022 – 1:00 to 2:00 pm
Eight sessions – Every Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on January 13 to 27; February 3 to 24; and March 3
Talk to your doctor about increasing your physical activity. If you do not have a doctor because you do not have health care coverage, you can apply now for coverage, including Medicaid. The Michigan Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment period has started and goes through January 15, 2022. Free, local enrollment help is available at LocalHelp.Healthcare.gov or by calling 800-318-2596.
