MOW DOWN HUNGER: Match Campaign Benefits Michigan Food Banks

ANN ARBOR, MI (September 10, 2019) – As part of its 10th annual Mow Down Hunger campaign, Weingartz will match gifts to Michigan food banks, including Food Gatherers, to raise one million meals for hungry children in Southeast Michigan. Funds raised through the campaign will support Food Gatherers’ programs targeting child hunger, including school-based fruit and vegetable distributions serving students and their families.

“Our family has long supported programs that provide for people in the community who are hungry,” said Weingartz Vice President of Sales Ron Weingartz. “When Weingartz first stepped in as the Mow Down Hunger matching sponsor, we were excited to see how our customers, and especially employees, embraced the campaign. We are humbled by their generosity year after year.”

Weingartz is matching is matching new gifts to Food Gatherers dollar for dollar. Start fighting hunger where we live with a donation of any size and Weingartz will match it for double the impact! Or, choose to make a monthly donation to Food Gatherers and Weingartz will match it for a full year. A monthly gift of $25 will be doubled to $50 every month for twelve months, providing 1,800 nutritious meals to our neighbors in need.

“The Mow Down Hunger campaign kicks off at a crucial time for our child hunger initiatives,” said Markell Miller, Director of Community Food Programs at Food Gatherers. “With back-to-school season in full swing, our school-based programs are following suit. Our goal is to serve children and their families on schedules and locations that are most convenient to them. These programs are especially important, because we are able to provide fruits and vegetables to those who may otherwise not have access to fresh produce.”

By making a new single or monthly gift to Food Gatherers, supporters not only fund programs at this critical point in time, but they provide revenue that the food rescue and food bank program can rely on through the year. Weingartz will match new gifts created or upgraded between September 10 and October 8.
