THE HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN and TYLER HILTON CELEBRATING ELVIS PRESLEY’S RECORDS FROM SUN STUDIO
Friday, January 13, 2023, 8:00pm
Tickets: $25
A re-creation and celebration of the first music of the King
Known for its legendary music collection, including the early albums of Elvis Presley, Sun Studio left an indelible mark on the history of rock ‘n’ roll. In 2005, Tyler Hilton was cast to play the legendary rock star in the blockbuster biopic, Walk the Line (starring Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash). Now Tyler has teamed up with America’s premiere hot jazz and Western swing trio, Hot Club of Cowtown, bringing Elvis’ greatest hits from the Sun Studio years to life on the stage. The Hot Club of Cowtown has been an Ark favorite for years, but they’ve continued to break new ground since first visiting Ann Arbor in the 1990s, and this new show is no exception. Both The Hot Club of Cowtown and Tyler Hilton will perform their own material, and then they’ll join forces for the Elvis material—which is very much in the bass-heavy Hot Club’s wheelhouse.
JILL JACK’S ANNUAL BIRTHDAY BASH
Saturday, January 14, 2023, 8:00pm
Tickets: $25
Celebrating a lifetime of music!
Jill Jack’s annual birthday bash has become a New Year’s tradition at The Ark! Jill’s magical connection to her audience is the result of her generous artistry. By combining her gifts as a conceptual visionary with a warm gathering of musical influences, Jill touches that secret heart of ours with her melodies and lyrics. In her hometown of Detroit, Jill needs no further explanation. She’s been lauded in equal measure to her talents: Since 1997 she’s won dozens of Detroit Music Awards in every conceivable category that applies to a singer-songwriter. Jill extends the tradition of the confessional (i.e. achingly open, unafraid of intimacy) singer-songwriter, and is proud of that style and its continuation. You get all of Jill Jack in a performance—her blend of folk and rock traditions, her open humor. Jill’s generous spirit has benefited plenty of other musicians around the Detroit area, so come and wish her a happy birthday! This year’s Jill Jack Birthday Bash will be a special one, looking back at the career of one of the Detroit area’s great musicians.

“Fabulous old-time playing and sibling harmony”—NPR
The Brother Brothers, twins, are Brooklyn’s Adam and Davis Moss. They offer rich harmonies and thoughtful songs accompanied by guitar, cello, violin, and banjo in a coherent way that only musicians from the same family can achieve. Already established players and composers in a wide spectrum of genres around New York and beyond, they have teamed up to bring their individual experiences together. Among their fans is Sarah Jarosz, who raves: “They approach their poignant and often charming songs with an almost startling sense of ease, and the tight harmonies are enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine. Their ability to pull the listener into their quietly energetic musical journey is a joy to behold.” The Brother Brothers come to Michigan with a new album, “Cover to Cover.”
