Latest road closures, construction for this weekend and U-M football games
Liberty Street at First Street [new closure dates]: Saturday, Oct. 24–Monday, Oct. 26, 2020. Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, Liberty Street will be closed leading up to the intersection of First Street for road paving. Vehicles traveling westbound on Liberty Street will be detoured south on Main Street, west on William Street, then north on Second Street back to Liberty Street. Vehicles travelling eastbound will be detoured south on Second Street, east on William Street, then north on Ashley Street back to Liberty Street. Local traffic will be maintained between Second and First streets and between First and Main Street.
Pedestrian through traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times. Work is expected to be completed by 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, and the road reopened to vehicle traffic.
Miller Avenue at First Street: Monday, Oct. 26–Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020. Beginning at 9 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 26, Miller Avenue will be closed to through traffic at the intersection of First Street. Westbound traffic will be detoured southbound on Main Street to westbound on Huron Street to northbound on Seventh Street then to Miller Avenue. Eastbound traffic will be detoured southbound on Seventh Street to eastbound on Huron Street to northbound on Main Street back to Miller Avenue. Local traffic will be maintained.
Pedestrian through traffic will be maintained on one side of the street at all times.
Portions of West Madison Street, South Fifth Avenue, Holl Street, South Division Street and East Hoover Avenue to Close to Through Traffic Monday, Oct. 26, at 9 a.m.– Monday, Nov. 30, at 5 p.m.
Location and Limits of Affected Area:
- West Madison Street from South Main Street to South Fifth Avenue.
- South Fifth Avenue from West Madison Street to Hill Street.
- Hill Street between Main Street and South Division Street.
- South Division Street from Hill Street to East Hoover Avenue.
- East Hoover Avenue from South Division Street to Sybil Street.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, eastbound traffic intending to travel on the streets noted above will be detoured north on Main Street and southeast on Packard Street. Westbound traffic intending to go through this area would need to go northwest on Packard Street and south on Main Street. While through traffic will be detoured, access for local traffic will be maintained.
Emergency vehicles should follow the detours. During construction, the contractor will maintain pedestrian traffic and detour it as required.
Michigan Football 2020 – Oct. 31, Nov. 14, Nov. 28, Dec. 5. The closures of the northbound lane of Main Street between Pauline and Stadium will be effective one hour before the start of each game through one hour after the conclusion of each game. Vehicle access from the neighborhood streets onto the closed area of South Main Street would be either prohibited or restricted at police-controlled access points depending on the street to accommodate people needing ingress or egress to properties fronting South Main Street that have no side-street access. The closed portion of the street will remain available for pedestrian use and emergency vehicle response to the area. East Keech between South Main and Kipke Drive will have a soft closure.
