Golf: Pioneers shoot a team score of 163 to knock off Lincoln, improve to 5-0
How good is the Pioneer girls’ golf team? Very good might just be an understatement.
The Pioneers, who are looking to move up from their eighth place finish at the State Finals last year, had four players card scores 43 or better to knock off Lincoln on Wednesday afternoon.
Pioneer, who improved to 5-0 on the season, finished with an impressive 163 while the Railsplitters carded a 218 at Lake Forest GC.
“I was obviously very happy with our performance,” said Pioneer coach Bill Lyle, who is going to be happy quite a bit this season if the Pioneers keep swinging the sticks like this.
Amaya Melendez, who took 10th overall in the individual standings at last year’s State Finals, led the Pioneers with a 36. Freshman Alex Ellender shot a 41 while junior Haley Marchand and sophomore Mackenzie Rooney each shot a 43.
Pioneer tees it up next Wednesday against Skyline at Lake Forest.
