Golf: Eagles card impressive showing at first-ever State Finals
The Skyline girls’ golf team made the most of its first appearance in the MHSAA State Finals this past weekend. The Eagles fired a 387 on the first day and improved with a 371 on the second day for a team score of 758 at Division 1 State Finals at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek.
Skyline finished in 12th place overall, eight shots behind Traverse City Central and well ahead of Traverse City West in the 18-team field.
Rochester Adams led after the first day with a 312 and pulled away from the field with a 317 on the second day for a final score of 629. Brighton was second (676) followed by Rochester (681) and four-time defending champion Northville (683).
Skyline junior Reva Patchava led the Eagles with a 184 (92-92). Senior Helen Kucinski (97-92) and junior Ali O’Brien (99-90) each fired a 189 for Skyline. Senior Val Rutte shot a 99 and 97 for a 196. Freshman Vedha Kakarla went 105-108 for a 213 total.
Pioneer’s Alex Ellender qualified for the State Finals with her 85 at Regionals. Only a junior, Ellender finished 34th overall in the field with an 88, 87 for a 175 total.
The Eagles fired a 358 and placed second overall at last week’s Regional at Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti.
