GIRLS Track & Field: Local teams compete at annual Larry Steeb Meet in Dexter

Dexter hosted the annual Larry Steeb Meet of Champions at Al Ritt Stadium on Tuesday, and while there were no team scores kept, over 30 different schools had athletes competing in the highly competitive meet held prior to the State Championships.

Here is a look at some of the top local performers from the girls’ side of the track.

In the 100 meters, Huron freshman Aliyah Ferguson was fourth (12.97) and Jordan Douglas was sixth (13.17). Pioneer’s Megan Bell was eighth (13.33). Bell also took fourth (1:01.41) in the 400 meters.

In the 200 meters, Pioneer’s Mahawa Kaba was third (26.51) and Father Gabriel Richard’s Zoe Frederick was fifth (27.53).

Pioneer dominated the 800 meters, taking four of the top six spots. Sarah Forsyth was first (2:09.97), Cookie Baugh was second (2:11.15), Sylvia Sanok Dufallo was fourth (2:11.83) and Emily Cooper was sixth (2:13.95). Skyline’s Natalie Kessler was seventh (2:16.75).

In the 1600 meters, Huron’s Sonya Shelgikar was ninth (5:28.60).

Pioneer’s Clara Peikert was eighth in the freshman 1600 meters with a time of 6:30.52.

In the 100 hurdles, Huron’s Mya Georgiadis was fourth (14.56) and teammate Christabelle Obi was seventh (15.73). Obi also was sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.11.

Huron’s 4×100 relay team of Rachel Overgaard, Aliyah Ferguson, Jordan Douglas and Mackenzie Robinson took first in 48.37. Pioneer’s team of Imani Blair, Jordyn Johnson, Olivia Gray and Mahawa Kaba took seventh in 51.81.

Huron’s 4×200 relay team of Ferguson, Douglas, Wilson and Overgaard took second in 1:44.53. Father Gabriel Richard’s team of Madeleine Fleury, Bell Hollenshead, Abby LaFave and Zoe Frederick took eighth in 1:50.24. Skyline’s team of Leah White, Zoey Wang, Sydney Cunningham and Sadie Schultz was 10th in 1:51.26.

In the 4×800 relay, Richard’s team of Gianna Hoving, Gianna-Marie Schubert, Emily Carr and Erin Stuk was fifth (10:33.06) and the Huron team of Sala Motohara, Deborah Obi, Jaya Shah and Emily Ma was sixth in 11:04.82.

In the DMR relay, Pioneer’s team of Monica Ristich, Natalie Mello, Lucy Pike and Paige Hockley took sixth in 13:59.10 and Skyline’s team of Emily Ma, Aiko Motohara, Royce Smith and Sarah Conley was 10th in 14:29.21.

Pioneer’s 4×100 shuttle hurdles team of Melanie Valtadoros, Emma Hilbert, Rachel Sprauer and Veronica Weinberg was second in 1:10.64.

In the shot put, Huron freshman Cora Williams was second (41-11). Pioneer’s Yeine Han was sixth (34-03) and teammate Maya Rollins was ninth (32-02).

In the discus, Greenhills’ Chisom Anwunah was ninth (98-07).

Pioneer’s Gabriella Newman was third in the high jump at 4-10. Huron’s Alena Adams was fifth (4-10).

In the long jump, Greenhills’ Ella Song was 11th (15-02).
