Girls Track & Field: Huron runs third, Pioneer sixth at Division 1 State Finals
It was quite the showing for the locals at the Division 1 Girls’ Track and Field State Championships on Saturday at East Kentwood High School as two teams placed in the top six.
Huron ran third with 45 points and Pioneer took sixth with 28 points. Oak Park finished first overall with 86 points with Detroit Renaissance second with 60. Dexter took 10th with 18 points.
The Pioneer 4×800 relay team of Cookie Baugh, Sylvia Sanok Dufallo, Sarah Forsyth and Rachel Forsyth took first with a time of 9:09.43. The Skyline 4×800 relay of Catrin Kolsekla, Natalie Kessler, Lydia Cocciolone and Alison Mayer placed 16th in 9:48.35).
Pioneer junior Gabriella Newman took second in the high jump with a leap of 5-07.
What a day Fatouma Conde had for the River Rats. The Huron senior showed off her amazing speed by placing top four in two events. She was third in the 100 meters in 24.42 and ran fourth in the 100 meters in 12.18.
Huron sophomore Mackenzie Robinson was seventh in the 100 meters (12.48) and sixth in the 200 meters (25.19). Huron sophomore Rachel Overgaard was 19th in the 200 meters (26.72).
In the 800 meters, Pioneer’s Rachel Forsyth was third (2:13.01), Huron’s Samantha Hastie was fourth (2:13.20), Pioneer’s Sarah Forsyth was 11th (2:18.45) and Skyline’s Catrin Koselka was 20th (2:26.36).
Rachel Forsyth was fifth in the 1600 meters (4:57.30) and Hastie was sixth (4:58.19).
In the 3200 meters, Baugh was 18th for the Pioneers in 12:46.92.
Huron senior Kay-Lee McSwain was eighth in the 100 hurdles (17.14). Huron junior Mya Georgiadis was sixth in the 300 hurdles in 44.92.
Huron’s 4×100 relay team of Overgaard, Robinson, McSwain and Conde took second in 47.54.
Pioneer’s 4×200 relay team of Skylar Fletcher, Jackie Brines, Kayla Rollins and Mahawa Kaba was 17th in 1:46.91.
In the 4×400 relay, the Huron team of Hastie, Robinson, Georgiadis and Conde took second in 3:54.95. The Pioneer team of Sarah Forsyth, Natalie Mello, Sanok Dufallo and Rachel Forsyth was 10th in 4:06.69.
Huron senior Sela Gur-Arie was eighth in the long jump (17-05.50).
