Girls Cross Country: Pioneers run away with first at Regionals (WLAA photos)

The Pioneer girls’ cross country team completely dominated the Division 1 Regional Cross Country meet on Saturday at Lake Erie Metropark. The Pioneers placed five runners among the top eight places and scored just 21 points to finish first and advance to Saturday’s state meet at MIS in Brooklyn.

Saline scored an impressive 58 points but still finished a distant second to the Pioneers. Bedford was third with 82 points as the three SEC teams advanced to the states. Woodhaven was a distant fourth (162) and Allen Park was fifth (163).

The Pioneers won the little battles as well.

Zofia Dudek ran off with first place. The senior ran most of the course all by herself and won by a full minute. She crossed the line in just 17:04.12.

Sophomore Sarah Forsyth won a sprint to the finish line with Saline’s Madi Wood. Forsyth crossed second in 18:04.72 while Wood was a click behind in third at 18:04.94.

Pioneer sophomore Cookie Baugh clocked in at 18:46.47 to finish fourth.

Pioneer sophomore Charlotte Batra won her race to the finish line with Saline’s Nicole Dillmann. Batra was sixth in 19:07.96 – Dillman finished seventh in 19:09.10.

Senior Anna Vogel was eighth in 19:12.35 to complete the top five.

Junior Anna Dudek finished 18th in 19:52.98, senior Danielle Armstrong was 28th in 20:30.45.
