Girls Cross Country: Pioneer wins under the Ohio lights; Huron runs among legends
Centerville High School (just south of Dayton, Ohio) hosted Centerville’s popular Saturday Night Lights cross country meet on Saturday and it was a team from Ann Arbor that shined the brightest. And as with most races the Pioneers line up to run, it wasn’t close.
The Pioneers took three of the top eight places and crushed the 20-team field with 45 points. Host Centerville was second with 152 points. Mason (Ohio) was third with 164 points and Beavercreek (Ohio) was fourth with 175. St. Ursula Academy (Cincinnati) was fifth with 198 points.
Sophomore Rachel Forsyth ran first overall with a time of 17 minutes, 20.6 seconds. Oakwood (Dayton, Ohio) senior Grace Hartman was second in 17:35.5.
Senior Sarah Forsyth was seventh in 18:12.3 and senior Cookie Baugh was eighth in 18:14.9 as the Pioneers dominated the top 10.
Junior Emily Cooper was 12th (18:34.7), sophomore Natalie Mello was 37th (19:27.3), senior Charlotte Batra was 46th (19:39.6) and junior Allison Nutt was 80th (20:23.1).
Huron
The River Rats kept their running to the daytime hours and placed eighth at the 21 Legends Classic at Huron Meadows Metropark. Brighton ran first with 58 points, Saline was second (93) and Walled Lake Northern was third (124). Huron was eighth with 246 points.
Lucinda Paliani continues her strong freshman season. She was sixth overall with a time of 19:28.62.
Sophomore Sonya Shelgikar was 34th (20:26.10), freshman Jaya Shah was 77th (22:05.81), junior Mia Solomon was 78th (22:07.20), freshman Kendra Bogan was 79th (22:07.58), junior Rachel Overgaard was 85th (22:15.45) and junior Emily Ma was 95th (22:40.52).
