Girls Basketball: Pioneers light up Detroit Edison, improve to 3-1
The Pioneer girls’ basketball team opened up a 15-5 first quarter lead on visiting Detroit Edison on Monday night and never looked back as the Pioneers cruised to a 45-35 win in a non-league game.
Pioneer led 26-11 at halftime and 56-27 after three quarters.
The Pioneers had a solid scoring attack as they continue to spread the wealth (and the ball) around. Mya Hicks hit two triples in the third quarter and finished with a team-high 11 points. Lauren Dewolf scored all nine of her points in the first half. Alexis Clark helped get the Pioneers off to a quick start scoring six of her eight points in the first quarter. Felicia Stewart had six points and Jackie Brines scored four.
On Saturday, Dewolf and Stewart had huge games to lead the Pioneers to a 54-25 win over Belleville. Dewolf scored 19 points and Stewart scored 17 in the win. The two Pioneers went a combined 10 for 12 at the free-throw line.
Clark scored nine and Hicks added five in the win.
Pioneer improves to 3-1 on the young season with their other win coming against Howell. They play at Powers Catholic HS on Wednesday (Dec. 18) in their final game before the holiday break.
